Artist Statement

Since I was young, I have always been interested in making things - sewing my own clothes, sketching & drawing, painting with watercolors & acrylics, and crocheting beaded jewelry.  I began having art shows in my home, inviting other artists to participate. Gin Templeton was one of those artists & she was instrumental in my becoming involved in Marjorie Schlossman's abstract painting group about 5 years ago.  I now concentrate only on abstract painting.

Biography

Born in St. Vincent, Minnesota, I grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota. I attended the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelors in the Fine Arts, and continuing on to earn Masters in Art from the University of Southern California, and a Masters of Fine Arts from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, California.

While teaching art in Los Angeles I became interested in the graffiti which was everywhere in the city. I photographed hundreds of examples over the years and used these as the basis for collages and paintings.

The current series of works are a continuance of the painting/collage mix. However, these more recent peces are developing into more painting and less collage.

I have exhibited my work throughout California and Fargo.

Artist Statement

These mixed-media collages are the culmination of photographing street art in Los Angeles for 10 years. Each photo is a small portion of a much larger piece. Hundreds of photos were taken and only the best ones were used. Some of these photos have also been painted on top of.
