Nancy White - Zen Meditation

Nancy Nanshin White received lay ordination in 2016 from Rev. Patricia Dai-En Bennage.  Rev. Bennage is the retired Abbess of Mount Equity Zendo, a Soto Zen temple, which was located in Pennsdale, PA.  Rev. Bennage trained in Japan for over 20 years.  Her lineage teacher is Noda Daito Roshi and her training teacher is Abbess Aoyama Roshi, author of the book Zen Seeds.  Nancy has practiced with her teacher for over 15 years.  She is a native of North Dakota who recently relocated to Fargo-Moorhead following retirement from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, where she offered Zen meditation to the Bucknell community and taught a course based on Thich Nhat Hanh's fifth mindfulness training.  She is a member of Mount Equity Sangha.  In addition to intensive training at Mount Equity, Nancy practiced in California, New York, and North Carolina, and at a Soto Zen international symposium in Japan.  As part of her training toward becoming a lay teacher, she was responsible for many events at Mount Equity such as assigning work duties, meal preparation, giving Dharma talks, performing and teaching sutra chanting, and logistics.  Nancy offers zazen (meditation) at the Spirit Room as a spiritual practice which guides the practitioner’s daily life.  She is also available for instruction in the precepts.  No experience with meditation is necessary to join our community of practice; just come with an open heart/mind.  Nancy is assisted by Tom Tomei Knapp, who is a precepted student of Rev. Bennage.  For more information, please contact Nancy and Tom at tknappp47@gmail.com.
