Morgan’s background includes a BS degree in English from NDSU, two teaching certifications, and two years of graduate level studies in special education at MSUM. Before becoming the Executive Director of the Spirit Room, Morgan specialized in restoration of residential and commercial historic properties and published the Shining Times, a free literary journal.

Dawn serves on several boards throughout the community, including, Current President of the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival; in 2004, became a founding board member of FM Visual Artists which presents the Studio Crawl each October; is Past-President of the Fargo Moorhead Heritage Society, an architectural preservation organization; served on the Historic Preservation Commission with the City of Fargo for nine years; and is current President of the Jefferson Area Neighborhood Association, forming the organization in 2005 with the help of city planners. She served on the board of directors at the Fargo Public Library toward the end of the new library construction phase. In 2012, Dawn received the Arts Advocate of the Year Award from the cities of Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead. More recently, Dawn Morgan became a founding member of River Cities Literary Arts Center which is located at the Spirit Room. Most recently, Dawn has let an effort to establish a Neighborhood Coalition in an effort to work more cohesively with the City of Fargo regarding neighborhood preservation and infill standards.

Dawn Morgan is a certified yoga and meditation instructor, having led meditation sessions and yoga classes at the Spirit Room for the last fifteen years. She teaches credit classes for NDSU in the areas of yogic practice and philosophy. Her areas of expertise are specifically Shamata and Tonglen Meditation Instruction, Pratyahara,  Pranayama, Standing Asanas, Isometrics and Somatics
