Time: 1:00 - 3:00pm

Please join us at the Spirit Room in Gallery I for our Halloween Oil Painting Workshop led by esteemed member and Artist in Residence, Kristen Young. In this workshop Kristen will be providing all the materials necessary to lead participants through her process for creating a Halloween inspired oil painting using oil paints, essential oils, and beeswax. This event is thought to be suitable for ages 10 and up, due to the fine motor skills and attention required, as well as the tools being used. In order to ensure everyone receives proper one on one attention during this course we are only offering six spots. Please call Kristen to reserve your space at 701-306-6930

Kristen Young graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from MSUM with a concentration in painting. After working years as a cosmetologist, Kristen has left that career to explore her love of painting. Spending much of her free time in nature – most recently the Sheyenne Grasslands – Kristen is also an avid photographer and often creates her paintings inspired by her photographs. Motivated by a love of our national parks and natural flora and fauna, Kristen hopes to inspire awareness and preservation for our green spaces.

“Halloween Oil Painting Workshop with Kristen Young,” is funded in part by a grant from the Minot Area Art Association.

Annett Richter, a native of Halle, Germany, is a musician, musicologist, and visual artist. She teaches courses in music history, music iconography, and aural skills at Concordia College, and she has served on the faculty at Minnesota State University Moorhead, the University of Missouri, Columbia, and North Dakota State University. As lutenist, Dr. Richter has appeared in concert with sopranos Linh Kauffman,

Candace Magner, Dawn Sonntag, and Kim Sueoka, lutenists Richard Griffith, Philip Rukavina, and Tom Walker, as well as with the early music ensemble Consortium Carissimi in Minneapolis. As a guitarist, she has performed for the Minnesota Guitar Society, and most recently, she appeared with the Concordia Band for their High School Honors Band Gala Concert. Richter is Vice President of the Minnesota Guitar

Society and has conducted interviews with internationally renowned artists which have appeared in Classical Guitar Magazine online. When she is not teaching, researching, writing, painting, or traveling to rehearsals, Dr. Richter freelances as an editor of scholarly writing, tutors German, and enjoys taking students to local art museums. She has also served as Artistic Evaluator for the Minnesota State Arts Board. In the world of the visual arts, she has most recently worked with alcohol inks, inspired by the

work of composer, musician, and multi-media artist Jo Verdis. Richter’s painting Follow the Light was shown at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in their Foot in the Door 5: A Virtual Exhibition (2020/2021), an exhibition of works by Minnesota artists. Last year, Follow the Light was selected by The Arts Partnership in Fargo for their Virtual Catalog to Fill Blank Spaces project (https://theartspartnership.net/virtual-catalog-of-art/) and will be installed as public art on the south- eastern corner of Concordia’s campus in the Spring of 2022. Richter’s first art exhibition of a series of her alcohol ink paintings, all created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, was recently on view at the Twenty Below coffee house in Fargo. Dr. Richter holds master’s degrees in musicology and in guitar performance from the University of Minnesota and the equivalents of a B.A. and M.A. in British and American Studies from Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. She received her Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Imagine a group of men. A group of human beings, where everyone listens to what you say and willing to hear the truth beneath your words. Everyone is here to accept your voice, your emotions, your energy. Where everyone is committed on listening the very best of you, even if you can’t hear it yourself.

A strong brotherhood is developed. Any ‘regular guy’ can enter this space and feel empowered to share the unabashed truth about his life. There is no show to be put on here for others. There is no setting ourselves up in opposition to each other or any perceived ‘other’ in the world. This space is not for seeking salvation. We are here to cut through the bullshit. We are coming together to accept and work through the fears of showing authenticity, vulnerability, perceived weaknesses in our everyday lives. We are here to discover our own definition of masculinity and how to be strong and sensitive men at the same time. Let’s explore our purpose as men.

Fargo-Moorhead Psychedelic Society is a diverse community of likeminded academics, artists, healers, researchers, seekers, students and therapists who share an interest in the psychedelic experience and healing power of plant medicine. We proudly call ourselves psychonauts and meet to discuss the history, culture, science, healing potential and political movement of psychedelics while sharing personal experiences, supporting one another in our journeys and cultivating community. We believe the healing properties of psychedelics are a key to society dissolving its ego-driven tendencies and becoming truly nonviolent in nature.

Our meetings are a safe space to share experience and a great place to meet people who share a passion for psychedelics.

FM Psychedelic Society does not condone the use of illegal or controlled substances, and does not tolerate solicitation, use or sale of controlled substances at our events.

Join Elissa Stevens, Nu Hueman Healing Arts, for a sound experience at Spirit Room.
Elissa will start the event off with shamanic drumming, followed by a crystal singing bowls sound bath, and ending the evening with a balancing meditation.
Crystal tones singing bowls offer a high vibrational experience that resonates within the physical body as well as the subtle/energetic body. The bowls are tuned to sharp tones that promote healing and balance via the endocrine system.
The meditation Elissa will be offering is Dolores Cannon’s Crystalline Silver River Meditation to encourage balance following the sound bath.
